I recently experienced a level of honesty that is rare in any age. Yesterday I prepared a deposit for the bank. A few checks signed and ready along with a deposit slip. Also along for the ride was a piece of mail. I was on the way out of the office to run errands and was slightly distracted by a cell call. When I got near the bank I could not find the checks, the deposit slip, or the mail. I scoured the car. I checked every folder and piece of paper I touched that morning. I even checked the trash.
Nothing.
So I made some calls to the issuers of the checks to stop payment. This morning I called the bank to see what to do. “Close the account and open up a new one.” Ugh.
Then I see I have a voice mail message. A woman found my deposit in the road. It had fallen out of what I was carrying to the car. She said she had it and could bring it over straight away. Not only did she bring it over, she had put my mail in the postal box for pickup. I called everyone back, “No problem, everything is still good.” So no hassle for anyone.
I was truly impressed and grateful for the turn of fortune. Hours and dollars saved from the simple kindness of another person.
Time to pay it forward.
